Climate

Geographical situations and orographic condition made the climate of Spain extremely diverse which is separately divided into four areas.

In the inland areas of the Peninsula a Continental Mediterranean climate is found. This type of climate is due to limited influence of sea its also a variant of Mediterranean climate. Cold and dry winters and warm summer are the reason of saying it continental otherwise its similar like Mediterranean climate. Rainfall is very similar to Mediterranean climate: 400-600 mm, with peaks in autumn and spring. The Continental aspects of this climate are more important with higher altitude. The difference between average temperatures in winter and summer is 18.5C. this area include the largest city Madrid.

A Mediterranean climate region extends from the Andalusian plain along the southern and eastern coasts up to the Pyrenees, on the seaward side of the mountain ranges that run near the coast. They get warm winds from the Saharas called Leveche, also known as Sirocco. The climate is characterized by hot, dry summers and cool, wet winters. This region includes one of the largest cities of Spain Barcelona. Mediterranean climate zones are associated with the five large subtropical high pressure cells of the oceans.

An Oceanic climate in Galicia and the coastal strip near the Bay of Biscay or Bilbao. This area is often called Green Spain. Oceanic climates are characterized by a narrower annual range of temperatures than are encountered in other places at a comparable latitude, and do not have the extremely dry summers of Mediterranean climates. This climate also called marine west coast climate and maritime climate. As with oceanic climates, winters are relatively warm and summers are comparatively cool, so the agricultural potential in both oceanic climates and moist tropical highland climates is practically identical.

A Subtropical climate in Canary Islands is a very humid place and the islands have palm trees and beaches. The subtropics are the zones of the Earth immediately north and south of the tropic zone, which is bounded by the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn, at latitude 23.5 north and south. In subtropical climates the winters are relatively warm, but not as hot as the summer season.
