Spanish Festivals
Festivals are the identity for any country. Festival shows the culture, tradition
and believes of those countries every country has its traditional festival.
Spain culture is rich and it also has some traditional festivals which
are also very popular around the world and distinguished as Spain uniqueness.
There are many festivals celebrated in all over the Spain but beside this
some are very unique and interesting. Spain is the country of Festivals,
Fiestas and Ferias. We are listing some popular Spanish festival here:
Three Kings Festival Malaga Spain
This festival is celebrated on January 5th each year its a major event
in any Spanish Childs diary. For the three kings festival if you arrived
to Spain than reach at 5pm in Malaga Spain where this festival held this
is when the Three Kings arrive in the Port are greeted by the Mayor. In
Spain unlike UK it is customary to give each other gifts on January 6th
so the Three Kings celebration is a good opportunity to join in the fun
before heading off and taking advantage of the late night shopping that
is on offer, to buy any last minute gifts.
La Candelaria Candlemas Festival Madrid Spain
Candlemas is February 2. The first celebration took place in the late
seventh or early eighth centuries. This festival is celebrated for the
ritual purification of Marry which, as required by Jewish law, took place
forty days after the birth of her child. his was the day when the decorations
would be taken down and stored for another year. The Christmas plants
would be burned, with the remnants of the Yule log and the ashes spread
over the gardens to ensure a good harvest. A similar celebration, though
not nearly as well-known, takes place in the nearby town of El Hito (Cuenca)
on 28th May.
Carnivals in Cadiz Carnival Cadiz Spain
The most important Carnival is celebrated in Cadiz. Cadiz is a quiet and
serene city on the Andalucian coast, except when it plays host to Spain's
ultimate party. The fun began in the 17th century when the city tried
to keep up with the decadent carnival celebrations in Venice. Only a few
musical forms such as the tango or pasodoble are used, so that everyone
knows the tune and can concentrate on the words. Cadiz is famous for the
sense of humour of its citizens and Carnival is a festival in which authority,
politicians, celebrities and the church are parodied and ridiculed.
La Tomatina Valencia Tomato Festival Spain
This Tomato festival has no religious connection, and it was just started
in 1945 like the Pamplona Bull Run it is also the one of the well known
festivals of the Spain. Every year around 30,000 people turn up to take
part in this La Tomatina festival it is one of huge tomato fight in Spain.
La Tomatina Festival, The Tomato throwing Festival, is held on the last
Saturday of August every year and has been a regular event since 1945.
San Fermin Running with the Bulls Pamplona Spain
This festival starts at midday on July the 6th each year. We even cant
imagine how mad this festival can go. This is one of the most popular
festivals of Spain and its also very famous around the world. In short
it involves letting a herd of bulls loose in the streets of Pamplona whilst
a large group of people try and out run them! Only those people who want
to out run the bulls are in the streets and the Bulls are not allowed
to roam freely. They are run along an 800m stretch on their way to the
towns bullring.
Navidad Christmas Spain
In Spain, Christmas is celebrated not only on the 25th of December but
also includes all the surrounding days from the 24th of December (Noche
Vieja) until the 6th of January (Reyes). Christmas Eve is known as Nochebuena
or "the Good Night." It is a time for family members to gather together
to rejoice and feast around the Nativity scenes that are present in nearly
every home. On Sunday at 5.30pm, you can enjoy the first Christmas carol
concert of the year. The events of the fair take place around the fire
and include traditional story telling, dancing with sticks and a communal
dinner of soup, cooked over the fire in a huge cauldron.
Moros & Cristianos Alicante Festival Alicante Spain
As with a large number of the Spanish Festivals the Moros and Cristianos
is celebrated throughout the whole of Spain but in Alicante it is a large
and colourful spectacle. These days the festivals and battles are held
in good humour and the principle focus of the event is eating, drinking,
singing and dancing like other major festivals. This is a serious battle
and involves people dressing up in both elegant Berber costumes and as
the traditional land working peasants who used to go off and fight for
the rights and beliefs of the Spanish.
